SPRING 2008 SCHEDULE|REGISTRATION FORM
It's impossible to imagine a livable New York City without trees. The 2.5 million trees that live in our parks and along our streets represent nature in the midst of a world of concrete, pollution, noise, heat, and traffic. They shade our streets, provide oxygen, absorb pollution and beautify our environment. Recently there has been widespread recognition of the social, ecological, and economic benefits of trees. But life is harsh for a NYC tree. In addition to disease, insect infestation, and harsh growing conditions, street trees are the victims of neglect and vandalism . Trees New York seeks your help to prevent the further loss of this precious resource. You can become an informed steward of NYC’s urban forest and make an important contribution to your community by learning how to identify, care for and protect the trees in your neighborhood. Starting in late Septemberl, Trees New York (TNY)-- a nonprofit organization dedicated to tree maintenance and education, is offering a course in street tree care. By successfully completing the 12-hour Citizen Pruner Course, you will be licensed by NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and TNY to care for NYC trees.
